Caribbean Vacation Fantasy
Eleuthera Bahamas is a large, bean-shaped island that was born when the Caribbean waters receded from an ancient coral and limestone outcropping that formed the Bahama Islands. Today, the island of Eleuthera Bahamas is dotted with shrubs, causerina trees, and jagged coral rock. Nooks and crannies can be explored throughout the island, especially Preacher's Cave to the north, and those in Hatchet Bay. Throughout the year, you can hear the lone calling birds at dusk, the ghekkos scurrying across the rocks, the frogschirping from the cistern and the sounds of fish breaking the surface to catchan insect. From the porch of your Ten Bay rental you can watch tropical life unfold before your eyes.
Eleuthera was founded in 1648 by Governor William Sayles who, along with his small band of adventurers, shipwrecked off the northern coast on the Atlantic side. They first sought shelter in Preachers Cave, then made their way to the middle of the island on the sheltered Caribbean side and set up the first Republican form of government in the new world. Governors Harbour, or more specifically, Cupids Cay (pronounced "kee") is the home of that first legislature. Despite the fact that Sayles eventually chose Nassau, on the island of New Providence, as his final destination, Eleuthera remains the epicenter of western civilization on the islands.
GETTING THERE is simple. Go south to Miami and turn left. Go about 200 miles and you are there! Commerical flights arrive in, and depart from, Governors Harbour and North Eleuthera Aiprort daily. The southernmost terminal at Rock Sound has occassional traffic, mostly from private planes.
